I’m always on the look out to find healthier versions of the food I used to eat. And one of the things I miss is chocolate paste, whose main ingredients are sugar and chocolate. Not really what I should be eating…
When I saw the recipe in Reclaiming Provincial for homemade nutella, I started thinking about ways I could change it to reduce the sugar. The thing is, sugar stays one of the main ingredients, so instead of powdered sugar I decided to opt for coconut sugar. Since it has a low glycemic index and it is not processed, I feel this is a more suitable option for me.
- 1 cup of hazelnuts
- 1/4 cup of raw cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
How to:
- Throw everything in a blender and blend until a smooth butter forms. This takes just a few minutes.
- Store up in the fridge.

This looks fantastic!
Tell me, did you use an actual blender or a food processor? I find when I try to blend food without a good amount of liquid in my blender it all just gets stuck and nothing blends well. I don’t possess a food processor as yet, that’s why I’m asking if this would be feasible for me to attempt?
Yum Yum Yum! I am a big fan of coconut sugar too! :)
